On our grand tour de UK photography road trip I had a wish to find beach huts as I just adore them. Maybe because I nearly grown up on the beach in Denmark, Blokhus where we also have micro white beach huts along the coast, they remind me of childhood. Happy memories. The British are a bit more colorful and very different in appearance depending on where you are in the country, love it.

This post is from Images by Rosendal

Second shot - Same plain just seconds after the first shot

At the very moment Martin and I are on our third week of our grand photo road trip de UK (you can catch up on my travel blog). We have spent the days in Wales with its beautiful coastline, romantic villages and steep mountains. Wales also has many old steam trains which was a big surprise to us and great to hear the Welsh language too, then you really feel like you are abroad.

The featured images in this blog post made me think of “the rules in photography”…like don’t shoot against the sun! As you know then the images often get overexposed and without any detail, so I don’t know why I acted like I did. Here is the story; we where walking on this nice Welsh beach and I had my camera hanging over my shoulder, suddenly we could hear an air plain and as it past our heads I pointed the lens directly at the sun (where the air plain was).. and I took one more seconds after.

Here is how it turned out…

First shot - Shooting against the sun..

I really like that the same object can look so different in just a matter of seconds. I think this shows that its so good to break the rules and just do what comes in mind.

Actually I don’t have any “photography rules”, I would more calle them guidelines in the back of my mind of things learnt and read. I defiantly don’t have a black & white mindset in my photography (or life for that matter), but shooting against the sun was a new thing for me.

Do you have a kind of photography guidelines in your head while taking images?

Hope you enjoyed my little experiment.

Cheers,

Maria-Louisa

The german master photographer Andreas Gurskey had a exhibition at the Danish Modern Art Museum; Louisiana. So having a few days in Copenhagen we drove out to the beautiful museum, even the drive out there by the danish coast is a must if you haven’t been.

I must admit I first came across his existence a few month back when he had sold his image of the Rhine II for $4.3m/£2.7 million…and fell in love in his simplicity and eye for whats around us. He catches everyday surroundings and creates real unique art pisces, before anyone else gets the ideas.

This post is from Images by Rosendal

Photo art inspiration

Been busy with pen and paper and created these spaces and decorated them with my photography. I had help from Martin with all the word press stuff – thanks.

We have added a new button in the menu “Inspiration” and it’s here you will find my other drawn spaces decorated with photo art.

The shown example is my muse; the mini camper on adventures for the home office. The photo art work are real photographs in very high resolution, protected by UV filter with a matt finish. The images is mounted on white 2 cm thick foam board with a hole on the back and a “plastic thing” so the artwork is totally secured on the wall. The 2 cm thickness give a modern and makes the photo art stand out from the wall.

You don’t have to invest in a expensive frame, the photo art work is ready for hanging and can even stand on for example a shelf if you don’t want it on the wall.

The photo art work are small and will help add that little extra coyness to your home/office/cafe’/restaurant or hotel room.

Photo art sizes on the example below are for the square ones 11x11cm and for the landscape format 11x37cm.

Delivery time: 1-2weeks.

Price: Click on “Inspiration” in the menu or here…

We don’t have a web shop yet, but we hope it soon will be ready with different materials to print on and creative new ways to play with your ordered photo art work!

While we wait please drop me a line and I will get back to you as soon as possible and get your order shipped. Thanks.

Happy thoughts,

This post is from Images by Rosendal

Seagulls in the sun against the dark sky - a storm is on its way...

In my last blog post I wrote about what to put in your camera frame and story telling. Here is another thing I do – I create keywords before I head out with my camera or travel to a new place (read it some where that it would help you focus). So before heading out to the beach that day, I had keywords like: beach, sea, dunes, seagulls (the obvious ones) and due to a massive storm which had changed the whole area I added “storm”, “destruction” and “raw”. I find them really helpful and before most trips I write them down on my iPhone or note book. This way I can check if I got everything I had hoped to shoot, without getting to detracted of all the “noise” out there.

Storm dunes and a curved line against the white sky

Destruction and a little colour

Raw look, deep lines...and texture

Hope you enjoyed my little keyword tip – is there something special you do before you go on a camera adventure or no plan at all ?

Cheers,

This post is from Images by Rosendal

Long walks at the beach is my idea of relaxation, so when I was home this Christmas I had plenty of beach walks by the beautiful Danish coastline in the northern part of Jutland.

Big places work well with an object in focus

I remember standing there in this wide space, thinking what to put in the viewfinder – “the frame”, what is important here?, my focus? and what story would the images tell? So I started slowly investigating what was around me and where I had my feet placed. I started to see all the beautiful patterns the storm had created and sadly the way the sea had eaten of the sand dunes (but beautiful too). There was my story: the aftermath of the storm and its rawness.

Shooting landscape pictures can sometimes be a bit daunting I think as there is so much to capture. So an ongoing thing to master in photography is to be aware of what is in the “frame” and what to leave out! Better have five shoots from the same place, like one which describes; where are we? – “the big picture” and four close ups which add all the fine details.

I keep this quote in mind – I read it in DuChemin’s excellent book and it’s by famous Robert Capa: “If your photographs aren’t good enough, you aren’t close enough”, brilliant.

Look down and see the magic

Find the lines, then the big landscape is not so frightening..
